SOTTOVENTO – MONTEPULCIANO D’ABRUZZO DOC – 13.5%.
Colour: A bright ruby red with purple reflections.
Nose: Rich and intense fruity aroma of blackberry jam, plums, sour cherries followed by some lovely spicy notes.
Taste: The wine is soft and warm on the palate yet fresh. A lovely minerality is magically blended with velvety tannins. A touch of delicate spicy notes add some complexity to the wine.
The Montepulciano grapes that are used to create Sottovento are grown in Northern Abruzzo, where they ripe evenly on beautiful hills overlooking the Adriatic Sea. The grapes are hand-picked in early October from an old vineyard at an altitude that ensures an optimal temperature range between the night and the day. Certified organic farming ensures that the vineyards are in perfect harmony with the surrounding environment.
The fermentation is carried out in thermo-conditioned steel vats and it is followed by a malolactic fermentation. Before the wine is bottled, it matures for 6 months in cement tanks.
How to pair our wine Sottovento Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC
Serve this wine at 14-16 degrees Celsius, preferably in a large goblet, and always uncork it a little before serving so that it can open up well and express itself at its best.
This wine is a perfect match with Bolognese and lasagne or with any other pasta with a “ragù” sauce. It pairs well with tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms, Italian-style bruschetta and mince stuffed peppers. Enjoy it also with pizza, cured meat and mature cheese. This is a great wine for a barbeque – why not try it with “arrosticini”, a traditional sublime barbecue dish made of lamb skewers from the Abruzzo region.
