HARVEST
Manual selection of grapes lately harvested between October, the 20th and the 30th, in a 35 old vineyard in Controguerra with optimal exposure and low yeld. The terroir of Torri Cantine gives the grapes the best thermal excursions that, together with organic techniques of cultivation and aging, enhances the aromatic sensations typical of Montepulciano grapes. Sottovento DOC Montepulciano d’Abruzzo represent one of the most balanced expression of red wines from Abruzzo.
WINE MAKING
The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks thermo-conditioned and after the malolactic fermentation it ages in bottle for at least 2 months.
SENSORY NOTES
Color: Brilliant and ruby red
Nose: Nice and persistent fruitness, with notes of vanilla and dry fruit
Flavour by Mouth: Soft, armonic, round and full bodied, Sottovento DOC is perfect with any meat dish from cheese to first courses, from pizza to grilled meat. Sottovento DOC Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is also lovely with traditional dishes like arrosticini.
Traditionally in Abruzzo we eat the classic “arrosticini” (goat meat skewers well known in Abruzzo) with Montepulciano red wine. Pecorino cheese is also a big hit and if you want to try a vegetarian pairing, try some farmer soup with legumes, onion and potatoes.

Excellent value for money, a bit annoying the qualifying discount only applied to orders over £100 when this bundles was tactically priced at £99 BUT I selected a further single bottle that meant I only paid a few pounds for… so still good value!

Delish. Fruity without being too sweet. Full-bodied without feeling like I am licking the side of an oak cask. Mellow and round, smooth on the tongue. Shared it at a small, socially-distanced gathering, and everyone took pictures of the bottle. Definitely getting another case for next month! Thanks!

A lovely, smooth wine. You can taste the fruit and there’s a definite flavour of cherries. I like it a little bit cool (probably 12-15C) as it’s very refreshing. I’d say it works well with any Italian meat or tomato dishes, but it works better with pasta than pizza, for me. Of course it works with cheese, and not just Italian – just had a glass with farmhouse Lancashire. A very good wine and at £99 for 12 it’s excellent value.
